Farmers in Akwa Ibom State are to receive 800 trucks of fertiliser to boost food production under the Growth Enhancement Support (GES) programme aimed at promoting private sector participation in agricultural financing.

The scheme which is a critical component of the agricultural transformation agenda both at the federal and state levels seeks to shift the provision of subsidised fertiliser to a targeted growth enhancement support focusing on genuine small holder farms in Akwa Ibom with 39 locations as redemption centres across the state.

Already, 93,558 farmers have been registered in the state and captured into the national farmers’ database of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development with 8,511 farmers successfully redeeming their seeds and fertilisers using the electronic wallet system.

According to Godwin Afangideh, commissioner for agriculture and natural resources, a reputable fertiliser manufacturer and supplier, Tak Agro Chemicals Ltd has been nominated by the state government to deliver the product to nominated agro dealers at the approved redemption centres in the state.
