TechnoServe, a non-governmental organisation has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Nigeria attain food and nutrition security.

The organisation made the pledge during a recent visit to ministry of agriculture to showcase TechnoServe’s programs and impact, particularly within Nigeria’s context.

The meeting which is part of TechnoServe’s strategic engagements with critical stakeholders in the food and nutrition security sectors in Nigeria and the delegation was led by Adesuwa Akinboro, country manager, TechnoServe Nigeria.

During the meeting, Akinboro provided a comprehensive overview of TechnoServe’s mission, past achievements, and established presence within Nigeria.

She emphasized their dedication to improving the lives and incomes of hardworking individuals in underserved areas across diverse value chains.

According to her, TechnoServe’s approach centers on assisting communities in building strong farms and businesses, ultimately offering business-oriented solutions to tackle poverty.

Speaking during the meeting, Abubakar Kyari, Minister of Agriculture spoke on government reforms to boost local production of staples and curb food inflation.

Kyari views the Micronutrient Fortification Initiative (MFI) by TechnoServe as uplifting the agricultural sector as it supports the wheat, edible oil and rice value chains.

He noted that the impact of the initiative has trickled down to supply thereby creating more businesses for farmers.

He stated that the MFI initiative is in line with the country’s food security agenda that supports boosting local production of staples and improving the livelihoods of farmers.

The minister added that the ministry will like to understand how TechnoServe can further align with the mandate of the agricultural ministry and the priorities of the Tinubu’s administration.

Also, Akinboro highlighted her organisation’s food fortification efforts through the Inspiring Good Nutrition Initiative Through Enterprise (IGNITE) program.

The program, according to her falls under the umbrella of the Millers for Nutrition Coalition, currently operational in eight countries, including Nigeria.

“Their objective is to expand access to fortified foods by empowering millers of staple goods such as rice, wheat flour, and edible oil to become central figures in economic development,” she said.
