Firm partners Poultry Association on initiative to boost child nutrition in Nigeria

Nigeria’s poultry industry squeezed amid shocks

As the need for improved child nutrition takes the front burner of discussion in tackling infant mortality across the country, Wandieville Media – an agriculture and nutrition communication consulting agency in Nigeria, has partnered with the Poultry Association of Nigeria, Ogun State chapter (PANOG) to launch the ‘Eggs Make Kids’ initiative, to boost child nutrition in the country.

Speaking during the launch of the program, Hope Ikani, the project coordinator, Wandieville, explained that the campaign was aimed to improve the dietary diversity in children within the age of 6 – 59 months through the intake of nutritious food in order to ensure that they have a good start in life.

According to her, the project seeks to reinstate the importance of eggs as a nutritious food and the need for an increase in egg consumption by children.

“The partnership deal between the two stakeholders in the nation’s agricultural sector aims at improving dietary diversity in children within the age of 6 – 59months through the intake of nutritious food in order to ensure that they have a good start in life.

“The objective of this inception meeting was to develop a shared understanding of the intervention with relevant stakeholders within the state and provide information on project implementation,” she said.

The project, according to her, is funded by the American people through the United States Agency for International Development’s (USAID) Nigeria COVID-19 Food Security Challenge.

In his remark, Dare Kuforiji, the general secretary, PANOG, noted that the task before the parties was to aggressively create awareness on the benefits of eggs for children’s growth and development.

Commending Wandieville for the initiative, Kuforiji noted that it would boost the nutrition of Ogun State children and the nation at large, and it serves as motivation for the association to sustain the drive in giving children the best of nutrition.

“There is work to be done in creating awareness on the nutritional benefits of feeding our children eggs and we are happy to be part of it.

“The campaign will help improve egg consumption and purchasing power,” he said.
