Instagram has began the roll out an anticipated feature that allows users to rearrange posts on their profile grid, giving creators, brands, and everyday users greater control over how their profiles appear.
Until now, Instagram profiles displayed posts in chronological order, with users only able to pin up to three posts at the top of their profile.
The new update enables users to move photos and videos to any position within their profile grid, regardless of when the content was originally posted. The feature is being rolled out globally on both Android and iPhone devices after spending months in testing with selected users.
Once available, users can simply press and hold a post and drag it to a new location within their grid.
The move addresses one of Instagram’s most requested features, particularly among creators and businesses that carefully curate the visual appearance of their profiles. It also provides a solution for users whose profile layouts were disrupted by Instagram’s shift toward taller, vertical thumbnails in recent years.
Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, said, “The feature has been in development for some time and is designed to give users more flexibility over how their content is presented. Pinned posts will continue to remain at the top of profiles even after other posts are rearranged.”
The update affects only the appearance of a user’s profile grid and does not change how content is distributed in followers’ feeds, which continue to be governed by Instagram’s recommendation algorithms.
The change can be beneficial for creators, influencers, photographers, and brands seeking to showcase key content, maintain a consistent visual identity, or highlight campaigns without having to delete and repost older content.
The rollout is expected to reach all Instagram users gradually over the coming weeks.
