Arsenal moved to the brink of ending their 22-year wait for the Premier League title after a tense 1-0 victory over Burnley on Monday night.

Arsenal opened a five-point lead at the top of the Premier League table and could be crowned champions on Tuesday if Manchester City fail to beat AFC Bournemouth.

However, if City extend Bournemouth’s 16-game unbeaten run with a victory, the Premier League title race will go down to the final day of the season.

Kai Havertz scored the decisive goal for Arsenal, heading home midway through the first half to give Mikel Arteta’s side a crucial win at the Emirates Stadium.

The German forward rose highest to power in Bukayo Saka’s corner in the 37th minute as Arsenal registered their 18th league goal from a set-piece this season.

Arsenal Survive Late Burnley Pressure

Despite dominating possession, Arsenal struggled to put Burnley away and were fortunate not to be reduced to 10 men in the second half.

Havertz escaped with only a yellow card after raking his studs down the calf of Lesley Ugochukwu in a mistimed challenge. VAR reviewed the incident but decided against upgrading the punishment to a red card.

The forward was later replaced by Viktor Gyokeres, although Arsenal failed to find a second goal despite late pressure.

Burnley, already relegated and with just two points from their last 10 matches, frustrated Arsenal for long periods and nearly turned the atmosphere tense inside the Emirates.

Even if City defeat Bournemouth and Aston Villa FC in their remaining games, Arsenal know victory over Crystal Palace FC on Sunday would seal their first Premier League title since 2004.

Adding further intrigue to the title race are reports suggesting City manager Pep Guardiola could leave the club at the end of the season after a decade in charge.
