Udom vows to bring killers of 26-year-old job seeker to justice

Iniubong Umoren

Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State says “no stone will be left unturned to get justice done” over the killing of Iniubong Umoren, the 26-year-old job seeker by a suspected serial rapist.

The killing of Umoren has generated furore and anger even as the body of the late philosophy graduate of the University of Uyo was laid to rest in her hometown in Oruk Anam local government area of the state.

Udom who spoke in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital said the state was awaiting investigations by the police and state security services adding that anyone linked to the killing of the lady would be brought to book.

” I await the police, DSS, to conclude investigations. Once again, my sincere condolences to the bereaved family,” he said.

On attracting investment to the state, he state’s economy has been stimulated with investment worth N55 billion, even though he had promised to boost the economy with N50 billion investment.

“Today, we are doing a whole lot in foreign direct investment. We have the Ibom deep seaport and we have the smartest Airport terminal in the whole Continent.

” We thank Mr. President for the approval of the Ibom deep seaport.
Within a year we will launch a tomato puree factory for fresh tomatoes that cannot be sold to be processed, canned and sold for the economic benefit of the State”.

”In January, I came up to say that I was going to stimulate the economy with N50bn and I ended up doing that with about N55bn and everywhere in the state became a construction site and that is the way to manage an economy during depression.”

On the protracted strike by academic staff Union of the state owned university, he said with a monthly subvention of N32- million, the lecturers at Akwa Ibom State University( AKSU)were among the highest paid in the country.

“I give the Akwa Ibom State University 327 million naira every month as grant.

“Also, going by the figures I have, lecturers in AKSU received the highest salaries anywhere in the country.

“For sustainability, I decided that we align with the National Universities Commission (NUC )salary scale applicable everywhere in the country, that is the crux of the disagreement.

Moreso, AKSU has two different staff unions and that is not the fault of the State Government.

” I am optimistic these issues will be resolved, I have set up a panel of enquiry to that effect.”
